Hear Rick Noriega (TX-Sen) LIVE, and help retire John Cornyn

Tue May 13, 2008 at 09:07:11 AM PDT

Many of you are familiar with Democratic Senatorial candidate Rick Noriega, who is running against uber Bush crony John Cornyn for the TX Senate seat.  And some of you are also familiar with the fact that not only has Noriega closed to within four points of Cornyn in the most recent Rasmussen poll, but that Cornyn is under the 50% "danger zone level" in terms of his support.

And today, thereisnospoon and I are honored to host Rick on our BlogTalkRadio show at 1PM Eastern/10AM Pacific.  The link to the interview can be found here, and we would like to make a statement by seeing how much money we can raise for Rick as well.

The link to donate to Rick’s campaign is here.

The differences between Cornyn and Noriega are so vast, and reach across basically every issue – from Cornyn not supporting Senator Webb’s new GI bill to Cornyn’s complete support for neverending dumping of $200 million per day into Iraq with no strategic plan to Cornyn’s serving on the Texas Supreme Court (just like Alberto Gonzales) to Cornyn’s lack of any military background – especially as compared to Noriega.

But that isn’t all about Cornyn – he voted against including oil and gas smokestacks in mercury regulation, he is one of the top five most "conservative" Senators, he is a major MAJOR ally of Bush and his policies and compared the gay marriage issue to marrying a box turtle.

However, even though Cornyn is one of the worst Senators, this is more about why Rick is the right candidate.

For example, as a military veteran who served in Afghanistan, Rick has first hand knowledge about what it means to be fighting, and what a foreign policy strategy should and should not be about.  Oh yeah, that was his second experience in the military, as he also was involved after the 1979 hostage crisis – so he also has direct experience when it comes to Iran.

Rick also served in the Texas House of Representatives – so he is way more than a fighting Democrat.  He has championed legislation that made Texas the first state in the country to provide in-state tuition rates and financial assistance for certain immigrant children.

On the issues, Rick is on our side as well.  He favors using technology to track and monitor our borders – not a superficial fence that is more of a farce than any security.  He favors guaranteed health care coverage through partnerships between the federal and state governments as well as employers and health care providers.  As a veteran, he is no doubt appalled at the treatment of his fellow veterans by the Bush administration and the rubber stamp republicans in Congress – including Cornyn.  And Rick knows that the need to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil is critical to our energy policy.

Hopefully you can join us at 1PM Eastern, and just remember – while Obama’s campaign can raise millions of dollars overnight, many downticket but highly important Congressional candidates could use all of the help and donations that they can get.  Rick’s is a race that is definitely winnable, and any help that you can give him would be greatly appreciated.
