Why I'm voting for John Cornyn and You Should Too

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 03:14:10 PM PDT

John Cornyn represents everything big. Big Business, big oil and most importantly himself Big John.

If you like Big - Big John is your man.

Big John also likes big corruption. Karl Rove the Big Bad Evil Genius held a fundraiser for him today in El Paso

Oh there is a big connection between Jack Abramoff, Ralph Reed and Big John.

This guy is just big time.

Remember This Ad: Don't Let Senators Off the Hook

Sat Aug 16, 2008 at 06:36:06 AM PDT

Yesterday Kagro X posted a great diary about this Vote Vets ad asking why we are not running it this cycle. There are 17 Republican Senators running for re-election that voted against this body armor that the troops needed.

Regardless if Vote Vets or anyone else renews this ad, we must use it to our advantage right now. The redder the state the better the reception is my opinion.

Rick Noriega: No Buckskin Jacket, But A Lot of Smarts

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 02:49:08 PM PDT

I just had the pleasure of talking to Democratic candidate Rick Noriega at a "meet and greet" in Weatherford, Texas an hour ago.

Noriega is going up agin' Senator "Big Bad John" Cornyn in November. I was pretty impressed by the guy. He's articulate, knowledgeable, he's got a great service record and he knows just how bad the situation is in Texas, especially when it comes to energy, education, health care and immigration reform. He also has some solid ideas on how to fix things. I think if he gets some support, he might have a real shot.

So if you're a Texan who's tired of the black hole Perry, Cornyn and Hutchinson have dragged us into, go to Noriega's website (www.ricknoriega.com) and give him some support. (And maybe a little cash.) And don't worry....I've already emailed his campaign and told them they need a better header shot of their candidate!

Why aren't these ads on the air?

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 06:39:44 AM PDT

Remember this 2006 ad from VoteVets?

This ad ran against George Allen, Rick Santorum and Conrad Burns. All were defeated for reelection.

The same vote against giving our troops the body armor they needed that the ad criticizes was also cast by 17 Republican Senators seeking reelection this year:

Lamar Alexander (TN)
Saxby Chambliss (GA)
Thad Cochran (MS)
Norm Coleman (MN)
Susan Collins (ME)
John Cornyn (TX)
Elizabeth Dole (NC)
Mike Enzi (WY)
Lindsey Graham (SC)
Jim Inhofe (OK)
Mitch McConnell (KY)
Pat Roberts (KS)
Jeff Sessions (AL)
Gordon Smith (OR)
Ted Stevens (AK)
John Sununu (NH)

And not only that, but these Senators had all been elected or reelected just months before. That is, the Senate class of 2002, elected in November of that year, cast these votes in April of 2003, at the very beginning of their terms, and nearly six years away from having to face the voters for it.

They thought you'd forget. They needed you to forget.

But one thing they weren't counting on was the troops still being deployed and still fighting six years later.

But they are. And though some of these clowns have since tried to make amends, the fact remains that at the critical time, they put party politics over the lives of our troops, and voted against giving them the armor they needed.

They should all go down for it, and American voters should make a special point of sinking them for their cowardly votes that they hoped we'd forget.

These ads are just the way to do it, too. But they're not on the air.

They've been produced, as you can see. All they need are new tags to identify the 17 Republican Senators up for reelection this year who voted against giving our troops adequate body armor, and they're ready to go. They've been proven in the field, and you can see the impact they'd have right here before your very eyes.

But they're not on the air. And as far as I can tell, there are no plans to put them there.

Seventeen Republican Senators, some of them very, very vulnerable this year. What could we do with those seats in our hands?

Why aren't these ads on the air?

Big time Democrats, donors, and other convention goers: think on this, please. Use the time we spend together in Denver to remedy this.

Why aren't these ads on the air, and what can we do to change that?

Damn they arrested him again. I wish. Citizens arrest !!! Citizens arrest!!!

That's a picture of what I hope happens in Denver as I just read that Karl Rove wants to come to the DNC Convention and harass folks. Well I'm taking him to another fundraiser and that's why he's kicking and screaming. It's The Progressive Electorate's  Two For Tuesdays. I know it's Thursday but hey.

TX-Sen - Some Encouraging News - It's a Race

Mon Aug 04, 2008 at 06:29:09 AM PDT

Maybe I missed the memo at some point in the past couple of weeks that this race wasn't on anyone's radar. Maybe it was a hard news cycle to crack last week considering that Ted Stevens was indicted and McCain started the attack ads.

Did anybody even notice that John Cornyn for the second straight month
was under 50%?

Mentioning Karl Rove and Fundraising Makes My Blood Pressure Rise

Sun Jul 27, 2008 at 07:52:23 PM PDT

In the past week, I have heard too many stories about Karl Rove raising money for candidates this cycle. Every time I get on-line, I feel like my blood pressure will go up another few points.

I just found out that last Friday Karl Rove was in Virginia raising money for Thelma Drake. At the same time I was listening to Gov. Don Siegelman talk about how Karl Rove came after him.

Earlier in the week I read about Rove coming to Texasto raise money for John Cornyn in August.

I think it's time we come together and raise our own money to counter this crap. Click on the Karl Rove: Make My Thermometer Rise Page or Thermometer below to help

If You Enjoyed "Big Bad John"...

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 07:55:25 PM PDT

...you'll love the Brand New Man.

This is Democratic Congressional candidate Jack Davis' idea of a campaign ad, apparently.

Big John Cornyn must be breathing a sigh of relief that his campaign is no longer responsible for the worst campaign song of all time.

And the campaign of Davis' Democratic primary opponent Jon Powers must be quite relieved that this is how Davis chooses to spend his vast personal fortune.

Assuming they can stop laughing.

John Cornyn On Netroots Nation

Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 10:11:14 AM PDT

I just finished my second panel at Netroots Nation here in Austin, where I was joined by fellow veterans who are running for office this fall. It's been thrilling to meet with Texas voters, grassroots activists, and online organizers who I haven't seen since last year's exciting convention in Chicago. Last night, General Wesley Clark and DNC Chairman Howard Dean gave great speeches and fired up the troops to take our country back. Soon afterwards, over 1000 people celebrated with us at our Netroots Nation Party a few blocks away - it was a great night!

Like last year, I've met hundreds of activists from across the country who are concerned about the direction our country has taken under George W. Bush and John Cornyn's failed leadership. So I'm not sure what John Cornyn was talking about yesterday when his campaign sent out a fundraising email attacking our community, saying that "Rick Noriega and his far left-wing blogger cronies are out of touch with Texas values."

McCain AWOL as Senate Overrides Bush Medicare Veto

Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 06:02:43 AM PDT

President Bush this week played a game of chicken on Medicare - and lost.  Congress easily overrode Bush's veto of legislation designed to prevent an 11% cut in physicians' compensation under the health care program for elderly Americans.  And speaking of chicken, John McCain was nowhere to be found.

Congress explores blanket immunity for Rove

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 03:01:21 PM PDT

AP, WASHINGTON - Democratic Congressional leaders have responded to Bush administration advisor Karl Rove's refusal to obey a congressional subpoena by proposing legislation that would render him immune from prosecution for any crimes he may have committed or may commit in the future.

The bill, expected to land in committee next Monday, has been named the Duty and Honor Act.

"We are a nation of laws," said sponsor Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), "By exempting Mr. Rove from these laws, this legislation will ensure that no lawbreakers in this corrupt administration will go unpunished, as they will have committed no crimes."

These 9 Senators Think We're Stupid

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 10:56:12 AM PDT

Amidst yesterday's Constitutional carnage, there was one event that had to buck up even the hardiest cynic: the sight of an ill man, under treatment for one of the scariest and often fatal forms of cancer, making his way to the well of the Senate to be present for a cloture vote to ensure that hundreds of thousands of elderly Americans don't lose their choice of doctors (or worse) of choice due to a political snafu.

ThinkProgress has the coverage, including the embedded video from C-SPAN of Senator Kennedy making his return to the Senate floor for the first time since he was diagnosed brain cancer.

Kennedy's Return Was A Thing Of Brilliance

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 06:10:23 PM PDT

I would have liked to have been up close to see the shock on certain faces today in the Senate.

Why?  It's been diaried that Senator Kennedy returned to the floor of the Senate today just in time to cast his vote in favor of the Medicare legislation.

And yes, Senator McCain missed the vote (again).

But, unless you were watching the proceedings on CSPAN you may not realize just how downright hilarious and perfect Senator Kennedy's timing was.

A bunch of Republican Senators look like idiots now (even moreso than usual - especially Senators Cornyn and Martinez).

1776 Independence Day Bomb (Obama, Noriega, Burner) - Last Chance

Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 09:21:31 PM PDT

We tried this last night and while we got a lot of support didn't get any donations. We have 4 candidates on this list and hopefully someone just got a little extra money that they can donate. If you can't give 17.76 break it up and do 8.88 for two months.

You may be upset with Obama on FISA right now; however we believe that it is more important to have a Democrat in the White House than to prove a point and be stuck with McCain. That is why we have included him in the mix.   We don't believe it is right to pressure people into supporting anyone. That's not the point of this diary.

Click here on the thermometer to give on Independence Day if you are West Coast , Mountain or Central. If you are where it is already July 5, we still appreciate and want your money also.
