Yet another diary on the New Yorker article (but with a poll)

Among the rush of hand-wringing diaries (most commented-upon -- and possibly first -- example from reef the dog) on the New Yorker cover, I have seen none that has a poll. It is hard to judge from the comments what the level of outrage is as opposed to those who accept this as satire. So please vote.
On the environmental impact of air travel

Today's Guardian has an interesting piece today on the environmental impact of air travel. See
here. This is a topic that irks me particularly when, as now, I prepare to make the trans-Atlantic trip home. How can I cope with the guilt of vomiting several tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere? Why is the airline industry so selfish and why do they treat passengers so terribly? Why don't people on the west side of the Atlantic seem to understand that cheap cross-country air travel is not a constitutional right?

Why I don't care about FISA

I had a revelation recently, and it might be relevant to those of you with the thankless task of convincing red-staters of Bush's follies. It might not be earth-shattering to you guys, but it betrays a naivety I think I shared with many willing to give Bush some benefit of the doubt.
How much would you pay for 2006/8?

I was motivated by
this comment from Hunter:
Make them battle for every seat, in every state. Use our grassroots to bleed the Republican money machine.
How much would a 50 state strategy really cost? How many people's $50 did Paul Hackett need for this one race?
