Basic criteria, evaluating homemade pet food recipes
Thu Apr 19, 2007 at 02:07:38 PM PDT
This diary will state two basic easy rules to help you evaluate homemade pet food recipes.
There are some poorly thought out recipe for dog and cat foods circulating, on the Internet and in news print. The authors of the recipes may mean well, but don't have enough technical knowledge to develop pet food recipes. It's easy to tell those who know about canine and feline nutrition, and those that don't. I'm a dog food formulator (raw and meat-based, whole food ancestral-type diets), so I'll focus strictly on dogs.
I'll use a modified recipe published in newspapers nationwide as an example of an easy-to-catch bad recipe.
Recipes for making "complete" "natural" dog and cat foods

Last year dogs died or became ill because of a large batch of contaminated grain-based dry food. Right now, recalled pet food from one of the largest manufacturers of food in North America is responsible for killing many family pets. What’s safe to feed? To provide the best food of all, take control of the ingredients and make it yourself.
Here are proven, well-analyzed recipes for two size batches of food. (I analyzed similar recipes in an article for the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association).
Andrew Sullivan on Hillary's speech today
Thu Sep 28, 2006 at 01:25:49 PM PDT
Andrew Sullivan does not often write complimentary pieces about Hillary. But today he does, and concludes:
"Readers know my long-standing suspicion of all things Hillary. But her speech today is a speech that rings with the sound of an opposition finally - finally - finding its voice. It is a speech a future president might make. Maybe it just was."

As another polluting car passed me, forcing me to breathe very unhealthy air....I believe that all people have the right to, at least, breathe clean air.
